This talk examines the early-stage product development process and the critical gap between
how brands typically communicate product ideas and what formulation labs actually need to
develop effective, defensible formulas. Fred will break down common limitations of creative briefs,
ingredient wish lists, trend-driven claims, and benchmark comparisons and contrast them with the
scientific, technical, and use-case inputs required to guide meaningful formulation strategy.

defined long before ingredients are selected, and why better upfront information leads to stronger
development outcomes.
Fred Khoury is a leader in technology-driven beauty innovation, known for
translating complex scientific concepts into scalable, manufacturable
skincare systems. With more than a dozen patents spanning stem cell
conditioned media, dermal delivery platforms, and novel formulation
architectures, his work focuses on how process, technology, and execution
shape real-world product performance, often more than the ingredient list
itself. Fred brings a formulation- and manufacturing-first perspective to
product development, examining how tools, equipment, regulatory
pathways, and production realities influence what ultimately reaches the
consumer. His expertise spans concept development through pilot batching and commercial
scale, with a particular focus on designing formulas that can withstand real manufacturing
environments while delivering consistent efficacy. Based in Los Angeles, Fred leads a lab and

recognized beauty brands. His formulas have earned hundreds of industry awards, but his deeper
