MEMBER SPOTLIGHT
Raymond Sullivan-Bojorquez
What is one skill you think entry-level cosmetic chemists
should focus on developing now?
Passion is essential. Technical skills come with time. If you
already love discussing skincare with friends, testing makeup on family members, or finding yourself drawn to the latest
hair care trends, there is likely a place for you in this industry.
Looking back, what experience helped shape my career the
most?
Being genuinely interested in the composition of products I
used& as a consumer! Before doom-scrolling we used to just
read the back of product labels for fun (or was that just me?).
What is the one thing only cosmetic chemists truly
understand
Consumer perception is the hardest raw material to source!
And claims are formulated before the composition
What's the messiest formulation mistake you ever made?
A: I've witnessed my fair share of lab snafus, but I will never
forget the smell of certain chemical spills like a thiol spill
(skunk-like) or butyric acid spill (rancid dairy). Suffice to say,
I'm fairly happy smelling lotion fragrances nowadays.
What do you do on your free time?
A: My free time is spent formulating how to have fun with my
beautiful family
My wife Jheyve and our two little doggos,
Rumi and Eevee. We love attending EDM events, cooking
traditional Mexican and Paraguayan dishes at home, and
going on long off-leash walks along unique California trails.
